Working to benefit the community.

The Congregational & General Charitable Trust disburses grants to charitable causes including churches, schools, colleges and community projects. Initially formed to support Protestant churches, in particular those of the United Reformed and Congregational denominations, grant applications are now also received from wider ecumenical causes beyond our core church links which demonstrates our support for the wider Christian community.

Established in 1956 as the charitable arm of the Congregational Insurance Company and reformed in 1987 as a seperate entity. The Congregational & General Charitable trust regularly receives a proportion of the profits from the insurance company which has been wholly owned by the Trust since 1994.

Throughout it’s history, the Charitable Trust has received in excess of £6 million, in distributions, from the insurance company.

Following a review in 2007 the council of Management which is responsible for the administration and management of the trust was restructured and now comprises 8 members.
